Linda Benson’s Stories in the Cemetery

July 12, 2015  Stories at the Cemetery, Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery, 6 pm

August 9. 2015 Stories at the Cemetery, 6 pm – July Stories Repeated

See history come to life with costumed actors presenting life stories at grave sites in Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. This Official Centennial Event, endorsed by Cook Inlet Historical Society, features fifteen of the notable founders, movers and shakers, early notorious residents of our city – and a leg. On July 12 a self-guided walking tour of the Cemetery includes stories at each of the grave sites.  The August 9 program repeats the same stories on a stage on the cemetery grounds.

Both tours start at 6pm and are free to the public; donations for the actors are appreciated. Please begin the tours by entering the cemetery grounds at the John Bagoy Gate at the corner of Seventh and Cordova Streets. Parking is available on nearby streets outside the cemetery. Please do not park on the cemetery grounds.

This event has proved to be very popular, with several hundred people attending. One attendee said, “As a result of Stories in the Cemetery, I have a better understanding of our city. When out-of-state friends visit, I take them to the cemetery.”

Linda Benson is a Storytellers’ Guild of Anchorage member. She is also an accomplished actor, director, and creator of historically-inspired performance art.
